Tori's Bakeshop // Signature Pink

March 17, 2014

On Friday afternoon we went to see Wes Anderson's latest film, The Grand Budapest Hotel. I could gush on and on, but I'll just get to my point. One part of the film which I particularly took a liking to was the bakery, Mendl's, in which the most perfectly, darling pastries are made - and, of course, they were topped with icing in Anderson's signature pink. The pastries reappear more than once in the film, and are always revered for both their appearance and taste.

No surprise that when I woke up Saturday morning I was craving something sweet... and pink! I immediately thought of the bright pink iced doughnuts that we bought at the Toronto Vegetarian Festival last year from Tori's Bakeshop, a Toronto vegan bakery we had been planning to visit for a good six months.

Within the morning, we were sitting at a window table in Tori's, drooling over pink glazed doughnuts (we playfully call them "The Simpson's" doughnuts) and the most mouthwatering vegan BLT (hickory smoked coconut, which our non-vegan friend who accompanied us said tasted pretty dead-on). I was a little bit smitten, and here's a love letter in photographs to prove it.

I typically gravitate to all things blue, and muted... but that pink! It has won me over in baked-good form.
