Twelve Dates of Christmas / Date One
December 10, 2013
Since one of our goals this year was to make time for a couples date each week, we decided to jump onto the blogger bandwagon of "The 12 Dates of a Christmas" this year (all traces of this holiday tradition seem to link back to when our favourite trendsetter Taza started it on Rockstar Diaries in 2011).
I've seen a few versions (with elaborate gifts and themes), but we've just been trying our darnedest to cram in 12 meaningful dates before the year's end. Well, here goes!
On December 1st, as our first date, we went to a Christmas concert at a local church. It was the perfect way to start the month - I've been merrily singing Christmas songs since (even when I'm walking alone on the street, like a weirdo). It was also the last long walk we had before it began to get teeth-chattering, knee-knockingly cold outside.
The concert was cozy and jazzy, with local musicians Eric West on drums, and Mark Godrey on bass. My childhood friend, Kathryn Merriam, sang her beautiful heart out and gracefully played piano (and some guitar)! They performed all my favourites - "The Christmas Waltz," "Merry Christmas Darling," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" etc., etc.
It was wonderful to reunite with an old friend I likely haven't seen since we were teenagers!
Any date recommendations? We have a few lined up, and a few I still need to post, but fire away!
